Dozens of students and two adults were on board two buses involved in a collision near Rocky Plains Elementary School in Covington on Tuesday, January 22, 2013. According to authorities, 40 students and the two bus drivers were taken to Newtown and Rockdale Medical Centers. All of the children sent to the hospitals were treated and released with relatively minor injuries.
The accident occurred as one bus had stopped to let students disembark when it was hit in the rear by the second bus. The driver of the second bus may be cited for following too closely. Investigators are also looking into any mechanical issues that may have caused the accident.
