Lawsuits Filed in Connection With Tainted Steroid Shot

A number of victims who received steroid shots containing fungal meningitis have filed lawsuits against the New England Compounding Center where the outbreak originated.  The FDA confirmed that the fungus that has sickened hundreds and caused the death of twenty people matched the fungus found in vials of steroid injections.  The infected vials were sent to clinics in twenty-three states.  A recall has been issued for 17,700 single-dose vials.  Steroid injections are a common method to treating back pain caused by inflammation.

People who have received injections from the recalled lots are encouraged to get a meningitis blood and spinal fluid test.  For more information on the meningitis outbreak, see the CDC’s response to this issue.
